Match report,
Clane V Raheens Senior League Div 1, Round 7 11/05/2024
Conneff Park, Clane 2pm
Raheens made the short trip down to Clane on a sunny Saturday afternoon with muted optimism, however Clane were not going to be a push over. What ensued was a great game of football with Clane getting the 2 points and remaining in the top 4 of the league table and Raheens dropping to 7th position with 7 points from 7 games.
Raheens opened the scoring with 2 points in the first 3 minutes, 1 each from Dan Hamill and Fionn Cooke. The Clane duo of Hugh Prendergast and Brian McLoughlin quickly responded with 1 each. 12 minutes in and a couple of near misses from Raheens resulted in two 45’s. Niall Dolan teed up the first one but sent it wide, goalkeeper David McPartlin opted to take the second and perfectly slotted it over the bar. Clane had the best of the next 5 minutes with a point from play from Sean Tighe and another from No4 Sam Reilly. This was followed by a lovely piece of play from Fionn Cooke who received the ball about 25meters out and ran straight at the Clane defence and firing the ball past the keeper in to the top right hand corner of the net. Clane quickly responded with a shot on the Raheens goal which was stopped by Keeper David McPartlin. At this stage there was a quick water break. The last 10 mins of the half were slow with a couple of points for Clanes Sam Reilly and Brian McLoughlin and 1 for the Raheen No.10 Fionn Cooke.
Half Time Clane 0-6, Raheens 1-04
Clane were quick off he blocks in the second half, Sean Tighe with a missed shot, then Daniel Egan puts the ball over followed by a goal chance from Sean Tighe which he duly converts. Raheens only answer is a Jack Taffe point from play. Clane take the next 3 points, a free from Brian McLoughlin and 2 points from play by Daniel Egan and Tadhg Montgomery. Niall Dolan is next up for Raheens to slot the ball over the bar with Clanes Sam McCormack doing the same 2 mins later. With Clane now 3 points up Raheens rally and are awarded 2 frees which are nicely taken by Colm Power and Jack Taaffe. 10 mins left and David McPartlin is again forced to make a vital save, The resulting 45 is neatly put over the bar by Daniel Egan. Its all to play for, 5 mins left Clane 1-12, Raheens 1-08. Raheens work the ball up the field on to the boot of Jack Taaffe to score Raheens second goal. The Raheens come back fizzled out over the final few minutes with Clanes Daniel Egan scoring a couple of points and a consolation point for Raheens Rob Thompson.
