Kildare LGFA Senior Ladies Division 4 Final
Raheens 3-16 Two Mile House 0-4
Raheens and Two Mile House arrived in Hawkfield Saturday evening, hopeful of capturing the Division 4 Final, having both been eliminated at the semi-final stage of last year’s competition. When they met in the first round of this year’s League Raheens emerged victorious on a 3-9 to 1-8 scoreline. So, it was anticipated that the League final would be a keenly contested affair. However, it proved not to be the case. Raheens dominated from the start and were three points up in as many minutes, with a brace from Sarah McGovern and another from Sally Kielty. Leah McGovern added another before Cora Maloney got Two Mile House off the mark with an excellent point after 11 minutes.
Ciana O’Brien then scored the games opening goal, shooting across Lauren Breen to find the TMH net via the left hand upright. Further points from the McGovern twins extended the Raheens lead before a mini Two Mile House resurgence. Three quick fire points, two from Aoife Maloney and one from Mikela Burke gave the House renewed hope, but they were unable to build on that momentum and Raheens pulled away with four further points to lead 1-10 to 0-4 at the half-time break.
With the wind in Raheens’ favour for the second half their opponents faced an uphill battle but they defended resolutely and only conceded a further 3 pointed frees in the third quarter. However, the difficulty for Two Mile House was that there was no way past a resolute Raheens rearguard where Claudia Gray, Maeve Magner, Enya O’Brien and captain Emma Kielty were in top form.
The result was put beyond any lingering doubt with two quickfire goals in the 49th and 50th minutes by Laura Dunlea and Sarah McGovern respectively. Points from the same two players preceded the final point of the game from Joy Duggan. Best for the winners were Sarah McGovern, Laura Dunlea, Moya McCarthy and Eva O’Neill, while Two Mile House’s best were Mikela Burke, Eimear Reilly, Grace Connelly and Lauren Breen, who made a couple of great saves.
