Following recent developments, including the resignation of Dr Mary McAleese as Independent Chairperson of the Steering Group on Integration, I want to reaffirm our commitment to delivering integration for the Gaelic games family. This came unexpectedly, given what we understood to be constructive discussions at the latest meeting of the Steering Group we attended on Monday afternoon regarding the integration process.

We thank Dr McAleese for her dedication and leadership in this role and wish her well for the future.

 

A new Chairperson will be appointed, and the work of the Steering Group will continue. While substantial progress has been made, including on a single membership model, further work is required to finalise the governance and structural framework of the proposed integrated organisation.

For that reason, and in the absence of the necessary clarity on these matters, we did not believe it was appropriate to proceed with Special Congresses at this time. This decision should not be viewed as a pause or delay in the integration process. Rather, it reflects our commitment to ensuring members have a clear understanding of the proposed new organisation before being asked to make important decisions.

Work is continuing in partnership with the GAA and Camogie Association, and we will provide further updates as we progress towards publishing a revised phased roadmap for integration. While challenges are inevitable in a project of this scale and significance, the progress made to date demonstrates the goodwill and commitment that we believe exists among all three organisations to achieve a successful outcome. The LGFA remains confident that the integration process can continue to move forward in a positive and collaborative manner. Our focus is ensuring this new structure is right for everyone from the start making sure all codes can thrive within it.
